Letter To A Friend

by greatowl

I salute you.beauty-friend

I am your friend,
and my love for you
goes deep.

There is nothing
I can give you
which you have not got.
But there is much, very much,
that while I cannot give it,
you can take.

No heaven can come to us,
unless our hearts
find rest in it today.
Take heaven!

No peace lies in the future,
which is not hidden
in this present little instant.
Take peace!

The gloom of the world
is but a shadow.
Behind it, yet within our reach,
is joy.

There is radiance and glory
in darkness, could we but see.
And to see, we have only to look.
I beseech you to look!

Life is so generous a giver,
but we, judging its gifts
by their covering,
cast them away as ugly
or heavy or hard.

Remove the covering,
and you will find beneath it
a living splendor,
woven of love,
by wisdom, with power.

Welcome it, grasp it,
and you touch the angel’s hand
that brings it to you.

Everything we call a trial,
a sorrow or a duty, believe me,
that angel’s hand is there,
the gift is there, and the wonder
of an overshadowing presence.

Our joys, too, be not content
with them as joys.
They, too, conceal diviner gifts.

Life is so full
of meaning and purpose,
so full of beauty
~ beneath its covering ~
that you will find earth
but cloaks your heaven.

Courage, then, to claim it;
that is all!
But courage you have,
and the knowledge that
we are pilgrims together,
wending through
unknown country home.

And so, at this time,
I greet you.
Not quite as the world
sends greetings,
but with profound esteem,
and with the prayer…
that for you,
now and forever,
the day breaks,
and the shadows flee away.

Thank you for putting into words what I have both wanted to say and wanted to hear.

This writing touched me the first time I ever read it; that truths are eternally known, and some such as Fra Giovanni are able to put it into words, what a blessing.

Happy holiday hugs to you, Gayle!

Namaste _/|\_ dear friend..
Ahhh.. life’s so precious I’ve decided all moments to be holy-days ;-)
Big love to you, from the South that feels like the North (brrrr)

Lovely GreatOwl, I was all set to write you an anguished piece about why is surrendering to the Divine so difficult and why must we reach rock bottom before we experience the love that is our birthright and why do so many people suffer, unable to see the miracles that are life itself? Then this afternoon, I breathed the heaviness through my heart – physically I mean – just breathing deeply into the tiredness and the exhaustion over and over again, then the tears came freely and the questions evaporated. Tonight, I feel much lighter and brighter and once again, the ocean is dancing for me. Wishing you a beautiful weekend. With love and birdsong, Anna xo

Thank you Anna heart! It was a beautiful weekend, visiting with my Cheyenne brother and loved ones on the North Carolina side of the Blue Ridge Mtns. Now preparing to leave Thursday, as we are taking our lodges to a powwow nestled in the Cherokee National Forest and Great Smokey Mtns. Such a blessing to dance our gratitude and prayers within the circle by day, then sing, drum and play music around the campfire circle by night. Blessings abound!

Surrendering to the Divine is surrendering to truth; the imaginary ego can have a difficult time with that :-) Yet as we relinquish empowering thoughts of separation, the suffering transforms subsides, for the thoughts which entertain separation of which the ego is derived, are the culprit of suffering. I’m fond of…

“Why are you unhappy? Because 99.9% of everything you think and of everything you do is for yourself, and there isn’t one.” ~Wei Wu Wei

“A wise man, recognizing that the world is but an illusion, does not act as if it is real, so he escapes the suffering.” ~Buddha

What sweetness is found ever-present as one awakens from the dreams of separation…

“Every molten candle has become the brightness of the eye, for he who has suffered the melting has become privy to the secret.” ~Rumi

As I may not be back on until my return next week, may your days and nights be filled to overflowing with beauty, joy, and love. Love’s bird songs to you :-)
